We need
teachers for Children’s Sunday School in August. Currently
we don’t have any teachers for August 1st, 8th
or 15th. Please consider helping out this summer
for a week. The lessons are simple and focus on teaching a
character’s story (like Noah). We can’t do this without
your help so please contact Pastor Kara ASAP if you can
help!
Once
again NCC will be working with the Norwalk School District
to
provide school supplies and backpacks to families in need.
Our goal this year is 400 boxes of 24 count crayons and 10
filled backpacks for 3rd graders. We will be collecting
these items now through August 15th. Watch for a list of
backpack items in the Fellowship Hall, and start collecting
those crayons!
Following
the 10:30 service on Sunday August 8th, everyone is invited
to celebrate Lloyd and Arly Pace's 66th wedding anniversary.
They will share cake, coffee, soft drinks, and deep joy of
their fellowship, with beloved friends. Please join them in
celebrating this special occasion!
The
folks at Ankeny Christian Church would like to invite folks
from Norwalk Christian Church to join them at the ballpark
on Friday, August 6, in Section 16. Tickets are $5. If you
would like to attend, get your money to our church office by
Thurs, July 29.
Friday, August 13th
we’ll be going to Blue Moon Dueling Piano Bar & Restaurant
in West Des Moines for Adult Recess. We’ll meet at 6:30pm
at Blue Moon for dinner, the show begins at 8pm. There is a
$5 cover charge. Childcare is available at an hourly rate.
Families with 1 to 2 children pay $5 per hour and families
with 3 or more children pay $7 per hour. When you RSVP
indicate if you would like purchase dinner for your child
($4 per child in advance) or provide a sack lunch. The
church office will collect the payment for meals &
childcare. Childcare begins at 6pm. In order to provide
adequate childcare we must have a reservation by Friday
August 6th. If you do not need childcare and
wish to join us an RSVP would be appreciated (for
reservations at Blue Moon) by Tuesday August 10th.
On August 28th at West Des Moines
Christian Church we’ll have the School for Congregational
Learning. This event is a one day conference that provides
workshops, worship and keynotes to give congregations
training in a wide array of ministry opportunities and
spiritual discernment. The event this year is going to be a
wonderful opportunity for everyone to come and learn some
new skills, hone some old ones, and see friends from around
the region. There will be workshops on Christian Education,
Prayer, Discernment, Youth, Church Growth, Leadership
Development, Going Green, Worship, Website Design, and much
more! There are 36 different workshop opportunities, in
addition to worship, lunch, and keynotes. The registration
cost is $20 and includes a light breakfast, lunch and
childcare! This year we’d like to have at least 20 people
from our congregation attend this event. Registration forms
and the workshop listings are available in the fellowship
hall.
On
Sunday, October 10, the community of Norwalk will host its
first ever CROP Walk, thanks to many nudges from our own
Roger Miller. A CROP walk raises funds and awareness with
Church World Service to end world hunger and other poverty
related issues. 25% of all funds raised stay in our local
community. This 10K walk is still in the planning stages.
We want it to involve folks from service groups, other
congregations, families, caring individuals. Join us
Wednesday, July 21, 7PM, at our church, if you want to take
part in preparing for this event!
On Thurs
August 5th, we will leave the church at 8:30am
and travel to West Bend, IA to tour the Grotto of the
Redemption. The Grotto is a composite of nine separate
Grottos, each portraying a scene in the life of Christ. It
includes the largest collection of precious stones and gems
found anywhere in one location. The beautiful artistry has
to be seen in order to be appreciated, and the message it
inspires is beyond words. The Grotto is frequently
considered the "Eighth Wonder of the World" and often
described as a "Miracle in Stone". The tour will begin at
11:30 and we will eat lunch at the Grotto Café around
12:30. The cost is your lunch and $25 per person for the
tour and transportation. There is a sign-up sheet in
Fellowship Hall and the deadline is Sunday, August 1st.
Please sign up for greeters and
for coffee fellowship treats. Clip boards are in fellowship
hall to be signed.
